Western Imperialists Use D-Day Celebration for Warmongering Aims

By Tyler Lyons.

June 6th marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, commemorating the day when the Western Allies launched an invasion from the beaches of Normandy to push the occupying Nazi forces back to Germany. Opening up the Second Front against Nazi Germany was huge as it divided German forces who were already in fast retreat after the Soviet Red Army launched a massive counter-offensive from Stalingrad back to Berlin. The American and British military fought bravely alongside the French Partisans to end the Nazi occupation of France.

Rather than celebrating D-Day as a huge victory over fascism and Nazism, Western leaders such as President Biden, French President Macron, British King Charles, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have used this momentous occasion to push rhetoric for expanding the war against Russia in the Ukraine. This comes as Macron and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg have been pushing to allow the fascist Kiev Regime to attack Russia within Russian borders with Western arms.

While at the D-Day ceremonies, Biden remarked, “we know the dark forces that these heroes fought against 80 years ago. They never fade. Aggression and greed, the desire to dominate and control, to change borders by force — these are perennial. The struggle between dictatorship and freedom is unending.”

Principled Communists can immediately see the irony of Biden comparing contemporary Russia to Nazi Germany by looking back to the winter of 2013-2014 when NATO, which was itself created in large part by Nazi Commanders such as Adolf Heusinger, backed an anti-democratic regime change led by neo-Nazi groups like the C14, Right Sector, and Svoboda Parties. The US government, NATO, and their fascist parties and paramilitary group, led by hardline Nazis like Oleh Tyahnybok and Yevhan Karas, overthrew the democratically elected President Victor Yanukovych and installed nationalist Petro Poroshenko. Once in office, Poroshenko, who served as a puppet to complete the de-Sovietization of Ukraine, criminalize Communist and Russia-friendly opposition parties, and destroy trade unions. also instigated war with Russia through its ethnic cleansing of Russian Ukrainians in Donbass. The initial onslaught of the Poroshenko regime killed fellow (at the time) Ukrainian citizens who opposed the coup.

This year’s D-Day event in France was a disgrace to the hundreds of thousands of American, British, and French Partisan troops who paid the ultimate sacrifice to eliminate the Nazi threat and preserve democracy in the world. The United States government along with its imperialist lackeys in Europe used the memory of a historical offensive against fascism to rally further support for a fascist government and a tragic war which has seen the destruction of Ukrainian infrastructure and lives.

All peace and democracy-loving people of the world, including the true American patriots, must continue and intensify the struggle against this US and European monopoly-capitalist-led war which could escalate into a third world war or even a nuclear war with increasing irresponsibility from Western leaders. Peace between Russia and the Ukraine can only occur through a return to the historic fraternity seen during the 70 years of the Soviet Union. In order for this to occur, the fascist regime in the Ukraine must be ousted and the Ukraine must return back to its position of neutrality between the West and Russia as seen before the Euromaidan Coup of 2014.

  1. Although I am not a communist or an Imperialist I would have volunteered to fight Hitler. But not Ho or Iraq the second time. Its a blind eye that sees one direction. Ho asked the Americans to stop France from recolonising Vietnam. Truman laughed, your deal died with Roosevelt. How different Asia would be if the USA had honored the bravery of the vietmin people that fought so hard against the Japs. History repeats and the blood pours as the earth ever hungry devours it.
