Happy Thanksgiving from the United Native American Society!

The United Native American Society (UNAS) wishes all Americans a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a time when Americans gather together with their families to be thankful for various blessings. Many Native Americans celebrate Thanksgiving as a time to be with their relatives and communities when they would otherwise be occupied by work.

All Americans can be thankful for our Bill of Rights, which has enshrined the rights that have allowed progressive movements to operate, like the American Indian Movement, Women of All Red Nations, and our own United Native American Society. Despite the ebbs and flows in American democracy, the fundamental direction of the American nation will prevail towards progressive change.

Certain movements identify Thanksgiving exclusively with its settler colonialist roots, therefore rejecting the idea of Native Americans celebrating this holiday. However, today we live in a different world. Native Americans are Americans, and they participate in the same cultural heritage as the rest of America. We continue to take our place in the building of a progressive American mosaic.

United Native American Society
