The World Baseball Classic championship held recently in Miami saw Venezuela slam the US in a 3-2 victory.

Soon after Venezuela’s baseball, President Trump posted on social media: “STATEHOOD!!! President DJT”

Earlier in the week, after Venezuela beat Italy in the semifinals, the President again made another egregious comment about possibly making Venezuela the 51st state after his recent invasion of that country.

Trump posted on Monday, on his social media platform, Truth Social, “Wow! Venezuela defeated Italy tonight, 4-2, in the WBC (Baseball!) Semifinal.“, shortly after Venezuela capped the biggest victory in national team history. Trump declared, “They are looking really great. Good things are happening to Venezuela lately! I wonder what this magic is all about? STATEHOOD, #51, ANYONE?”

Venezuela’s team manager Omar López said Monday. “I think for us it’s more important to win tonight to keep our country happy, celebrating, and keep making noise that for the first time we’re going to be in a final. That’s the goal tonight.”

Team Venezuela defeated one of the strongest USA lineups ever. Their recent 3-2 win gave Venezuela its first World Baseball Classic gold. The emotions from the players, coaches, and fans showed how important this victory was for the people of Venezuela.

Having played in Miami, home to one of the largest Venezuelan communities in the U.S., the game drew a sellout crowd of almost 40,000. The crowd overwhelmingly was supportive of the Venezuelan team.

“Thirty million people around the world were watching this game today,” team captain Salvador Perez said. “The World Series, as you all know, is one of the most important championships in the Major Leagues, but when you fight for your country, that goes beyond. That feeling, the country where you were born and raised, the sacrifices made by our parents, those people that helped us. That’s why this means a lot to me and to all of Venezuela.”

At a time where U.S. imperialism is illegally trying to steal Venezuela’s natural resources and democracy for US oil multinationals, baseball fans and peace advocates have united in their enthusiasm. Congratulations, Team Venezuela!
