December 7th is an infamous day in American history, the surprise attack on the US by the Japanese Empire was what ultimately brought the US into the war on the side of the Allies. Before the attack, many Americans were still more than happy to maintain neutrality in order to continue to trade with both sides. Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor was all about securing resources (coal, oil, copper, etc.) necessary to fund the Japanese Empire’s war effort and keep the Imperial Japanese economy afloat. It appears greed never changes no matter what decade one lives in.
Many decades later the aftermath of the bombing of Pearl Harbor is still on the minds of many Americans. Every December 7, there is a memorial service held at Pearl Harbor marking the ultimate sacrifices made by those who lived and died because of this horrific incident that is still fresh in mind of many Pearl Harbor survivors who are still alive to this day. Ultimately however, US entry into the war and joining the united front was what helped defeat the fascist Axis powers. Â
