In Western capitalist countries the concept of class has been distorted by the bourgeoisie so that most working people now consider themselves “middle class.”
Does this mean that socialists have to revise their opinions about class relationships? Is the possibility of a change of society from capitalism to socialism by the working class now unlikely in Western Europe and the United States? Or is the road to socialism for these countries complicated by new and hitherto unforeseen factors?
This book attempts to find answers to these questions and others from a Marxist-Leninist perspective. This book is being republished in conjunction with the Party of Communists USA’s Jones-Foster School for Party Education.
Organizing Methods in the Steel Industry
Organizing Methods in the Steel Industry is one one of the most important pamphlets every written. Originally published in 1936, William Z. Foster wrote this pamphlet using his experience as an organizer during the Big Steel Strike in 1919 as a guide to help the Steel Workers Organizing Committee of the then Committee of Industrial Organizations (C.I.O.). This seminal work is still used today by union organizers to help learn successful tactics, most notably during the successful Amazon Labor Union drive at the JFK8 facility in Staten Island.
From its beginning philosophy has been a participant in the class struggle. It has been partisan to a progressive or a declining class and thus has sought to advance science or to advance superstition. With that in mind, Philosophy in Revolution aims to reveal concretely the richness of the philosophical thought of Marx, Engels and Lenin, as well as to show the effect upon all of mankind’s current struggle for colonial liberation and socialism. The socialist transformation of society will not come as a change in man’s economic and social relationships alone, nor as mere quantitative changes in productivity. It will transform man himself and his total outlook on the world. This book is being republished in conjunction with the Party of Communists USA’s Jones-Foster School for Party Education.
