No to Obscurantist Tyranny!
Together in the Struggle against Colonialists and their Henchmen!
Since its takeover of power in our homeland, Syria, on 8th December 2024, which was a result of a military offensive fully supported by colonialist members of the aggressive NATO, the obscurantist junta has begun a crackdown on our people’s social rights. Tens of thousands of workers have been laid off from state and public sector facilities, with many such facilities having been liquidated. Discrimination against citizens on the basis of belief and affiliation has been escalating, amidst continuing acts of kidnapping, assassination, burglary, looting and extortion.
On 29th January 2025 an expanded meeting was held among the leaders of armed groups – who owe their capture of most of the country to a mere historical coincidence rather than possessing any qualifications other than brute force – in which the obscurantists’ political tyranny became even more apparent, as attendants agreed to entrench an authoritarian rule. A single individual was granted absolute executive and legislative powers, forming a blatant dictatorship subordinate to the Turkish mandate. Notably, this grave step was preceded by numerous meetings with representatives of imperialist centers and reactionary Arab regimes, and in the constant presence of the Turkish guardian, indicating the decision was taken with the approval of these circles.
All promises of achieving, or at least taking steps towards, democratic freedoms were thrown in the garbage. The constitution of 2012 was abolished, rendering Syria a state without a constitution, to be governed by the whims of obscurantists and the interests of the forces backing them. Interestingly, the revoked constitution did not mention in any form a ruling party; rather, it stipulated general social rights, thus being an obstacle to turning Syria into a nest of reactionary, obscurantist forces and their masters. Turkish colonialism aims to achieve in Syria changes of an extremist, obscurantist nature, of which it is incapable in its own country.
The ominous meeting also took the decision to dissolve numerous patriotic parties, including the Syrian Communist Party. We regard this decision as a mere first step to be followed by more repression against all true patriotic and democratic forces.
Standing on its history of over a century of struggle in various circumstances, the Syrian Communist Party will not submit to this oppressive decision. It will continue to fight for the rights of the masses and to regain the independence and sovereignty of its homeland. As Syrian communists, we do not fear oppression or persecutions – as evidenced by our history. The Syrian people knows us for our firm commitment to our principles and integrity in our service to the people. In our view, the most urgent task at this grave stage is to work to unite forces of good in our country from all backgrounds to stand up to obscurantist tyranny and despotism.
