Statement of the World Peace Council about the Recent Massacres in Syria

The WPC expresses its indignation and strong condemnation about the recent brutal killings and massacres perpetuated in the Syrian provinces of Latakia and Tartus by the armed religious fundamentalist forces which are in support of and by the new ruling groups in Damascus.

We are aware and not surprised by the nature of the above forces which came to power in Syria by the open support of major global and regional forces, after being “washed clean” from their Jihadist past and now being projected as liberators of Syria.

The harassment, discrimination and witch hunt, including killings of opponents to the new regime by armed militia belonging to the new regime, creates an explosive situation about which we alerted when the new regime took over last December. The more than 1.500 assassinated, mostly unarmed civilians are violating any rule of law and justice. The hypocritical and arbitrary statements of the USA, the European Union and their allies Turkey and Israel in the region are showing the actual support of them to the new regime in Syria.

The killings of Syrian citizens by state and para-state forces are constituting actions of ethnic cleansing and have to end immediately. The imperialist plans for Syria and the Middle East are dangerous and harmful for the peoples of the region.

We declare our solidarity with the people of Syria and the peace-loving forces in the country. We call upon the WPC members and friends to stand up and raise this issue and stay alerted about the further escalation.

The Syrian people did not deserve this after many years of imperialist intervention, civil war and destruction.

Long live the internationalist Solidarity!

Down with imperialism and its allies in the Middle East!
