During the 2024 Elections, President Donald Trump pushed heavily for the stronger enforcement of immigration. Originally he stated only “criminals” would be detained, tried, and deported. In reality Trump has not only restricted the access to legal citizenship (not including white Afrikaners) but has also expanded his racist and xenophobic policies to not just “criminals”, but also undocumented immigrants, documented immigrants, immigrants who are legal citizens, and even U.S. born citizens; most of which have not committed any crimes. These policies which have been carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) have been carried out with little to no identification of I.C.E. agents, no due process, numerous horrendous human rights violations, and the trafficking of individuals to domestic concentration camps, foreign max security prisons, and foreign countries. Many times detainees have been sent to countries that they do not originate from. The majority of these individuals have been Latino, however there have been multiple cases of those of Asian, Indigenous American, African, and African-American descent harassed, falsely detained with no due process, along with violations of their liberties and rights.
Trump has shown time and time again that he is not above the use of scapegoats. He has accused immigrants from Muslim majority countries of being more likely to be terrorists or being more likely to be associated with terrorists, claiming Haitian Asylum Seekers were hunting and eating public park geese and domestic pets, and now his most recent scapegoats are Somali immigrants and citizens. Recently the Trump Administration has frozen child care payments in all states due to alleged fraud from daycares. These allegations stem from notorious right-wing grifter, Nick Shirley, a YouTuber known for his pro-Trump and pro-MAGA videos. Extensive research, investigation, and mountains of evidence have thoroughly debunked Shirley’s claims of fraud by “Somali Daycares”, as explained by Snopes. The real fraud case that went to trial was led by Aimee Block, a blond, white woman, who was given a lengthy sentence. This sudden stop to funding of childcare is due to misinformation and blatant racist right-wing propaganda. This recent poorly thought out action only continues to show the racist and reactionary attitude and character of Trump and his administration.
