{"id":6094,"date":"2026-01-08T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyworkerusa.com\/?p=6094"},"modified":"2026-01-03T15:57:23","modified_gmt":"2026-01-03T20:57:23","slug":"raising-reds-review-pt-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyworkerusa.com\/index.php\/raising-reds-review-pt-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Raising Reds Review Pt. 3"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;final chapter&nbsp;before the conclusion \u201cPrimers for Revolution\u201d&nbsp;brings up a lot of different&nbsp;communist and socialist&nbsp;children\u2019s literature&nbsp;and how best to&nbsp;teach&nbsp;young children.&nbsp;Its&nbsp;amazing that&nbsp;Communist as early as the 1920\u2019s and 1930s were&nbsp;writing&nbsp;stories&nbsp;that broke racial and cultural barriers decades before&nbsp;the civil rights movement in the USA.&nbsp;I think&nbsp;an&nbsp;interesting point by the author after discussing&nbsp;three socialist authors and their children\u2019s books was&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cRegardless&nbsp;of their differences, the importance of biological evolution in the works of these three authors&nbsp;highlights the importance of the Darwinian theory in the worldview of the socialist before the first world war. By&nbsp;comparison, its absence from Communist children\u2019s books is notable.&nbsp;The Communist emphasis on voluntary action and participation in political struggle&nbsp;distinguishes their&nbsp;children\u2019s stories from the socialist tales of natural and inevitable change.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another\u00a0point the author made on the difference between earlier socialist\u00a0children\u2019s\u00a0books\u00a0and communist children\u2019s books\u00a0was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&nbsp;\u201cHowever, in general, socialist children\u2019s books&nbsp;differed from those of the&nbsp;communist. The themes of&nbsp;children\u2019s&nbsp;involvement in politics, the importance of ethnic diversity, the experience&nbsp;by children of economic injustice, and conflictual relations within the family&nbsp;are all absent in the socialist&nbsp;children\u2019s&nbsp;books, while they form the core of those books published under the auspices of the communist party\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This shows the party&nbsp;did prioritize organizing and educating children and that they did not merely view it as a periphery issue, but an issue central to the development of&nbsp;a revolutionary&nbsp;working-class&nbsp;movement.&nbsp;The party&nbsp;shifted its focus in children\u2019s literature to be in line with the
