The League of Young Communists USA condemns the calls made by Senator Lindsey Graham for Congress to authorize use of military force within the Mexican borders. These calls are made under false pretenses to fight the Cartels. The so-called “War on Drugs” was waged through the selling of illegal substances to fund a war against Socialism in Latin America based in Nicaragua in the 20th Century. The African American communities in the United States as well as Nicaraguan citizens were the groups most hurt by the War on Drugs. Senator Graham’s calls for US intervention come after recent moves by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to nationalize Mexico’s lithium mines. We demand Congress to reject the calls for needless aggression made by Senator Graham and to respect Mexico’s sovereignty.
