The Party of Communists USA (PCUSA) condemns the false charges brought against the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP) chair Omali Yeshitela, as well as Penny Hess, Jesse Nevel, and Black Hammer Party (BHP) leader Gazi Kodzo, by the US Department of Justice (DOJ).
These charges are reminiscent of the McCarthy era where various political leaders, communist and non-communist, were persecuted for alleged Soviet ties. In the 1960s, the Black Panther Party was infiltrated and destroyed by the FBI, under their new COINTELPRO program. The continuation of government suppression towards anyone who questions US support for Ukraine, or any other NATO-led war which goes against the constitutional liberties that the American people have fought for centuries to preserve.
The charge of “election interference” against the APSP was because of their efforts to “petition on the crime of genocide against the African people in the United States”, which is protected by the First Ammendment of the US Constitution.
This is a concerted attack on the African-American community and their right to organize against police brutality and political repression. This is a part of a continual suppression of all organizations of the working class and the oppressed that voice their opposition to the continued US imperialist onslaught abroad, and the exploitation of its own people.
