PCUSA Marches for Palestine in Washington, D.C.

By Jonan S.

March 2nd, 2024, marked one hundred and forty-seven days since the start of the Palestinian genocide that began on October 7th. As well, the 2nd marked 6 days since the US Airmen Aaron Bushnell self-immolated in front of the Israeli embassy in Washington DC.

On that day there was a protest held outside the Israeli embassy, next to where Aaron Bushnell sacrificed himself. My comrades and I attended the protest representing both the Party of Communists USA, as well as the American Student Union. Overall, over 60 different organizations helped come together and organize this protest, ranging from Palestinian-specific groups like Students for Justice in Palestine to Jews for Palestine, along with others fighting in solidarity with the Palestinians.

Through these groups there were several different speakers, all of whom highlighted the importance of maintaining the fight and support for the people of Palestine and to continue putting pressure on our government to demand an immediate ceasefire. One of the most noticeable things I witnessed personally was the pure solidarity among the ocean of protesters.  When someone needed medical assistance far back in the crowd, they were located and helped almost immediately. There were teams designated to keep people safe and interact with the police if necessary. There was even a chant led to instill and remind people of the fact that only we can keep each other safe.
