Statement of the Provisional Committee of the Irish American Connolly Council on the War in Gaza

The provisional committee for the Irish American Connolly Council fully supports the national aspirations of the people of Palestine.

The history of Ireland resembles the history of Palestine. Both the Irish and Palestinians were subject to division and occupation by outside Western colonialism and imperialism. As part of building the British Empire, Western colonialism took control of both Ireland and Palestine. Just as we need the unity of Protestants and Catholics in Ireland against Western colonialism, so too we need the unity of Palestinians and Israelis against the intrigues of Western imperialism in the Middle East.

Under colonial occupation, the West always divides their peoples. In Ireland, they divided the Irish people in the north from the Irish people in the south. In Palestine, Western imperialism has divided the peoples of Palestine into Jewish enclaves and Palestinian enclaves. Just as British colonialists were patrolling the streets of Ireland, the Israelis patrol the streets of Palestine.

Just as the Irish were shown they were not alone in their struggle for unity, we are showing the Palestinians are not alone against the gluttony of Western imperialism.
